As my work schedule (Chief Financial Officer of a consulting firm) became more flexible, I’ve spent more time in Lake Arrowhead. I grew increasingly uncomfortable with what seemed like overly-complex regulations, detracting from the relaxed “lake life” days of earlier years. Rather than just complain, I committed to get involved. I currently serve on the ALA STR Ad Hoc and Forest & Vegetation Committees, regularly attend other Committee and Board meetings and volunteer to work for committees and ALA staff, which has made me very knowledgeable about current ALA issues.
Having served on boards of multiple non-profit and for-profit entities, I fully understand the duty owed to the members by its leadership. l dislike members being patronized or ignored, or information being hidden with evasive answers. As a trained engineer (Princeton Univ.), I like facts, data and straight truthful answers. With an MBA in finance & strategy (UCLA), I hate wasteful spending and huge fee increases!
For five generations, the Hannon family has been proud Lake Arrowhead East District property owners and ALA members. We truly love our Arrowhead paradise and are grateful to have enjoyed lake activities for more than 60 years. We look forward to preserving our PRIVATE lake for future generations.
As a data-driven person, I believe our ALA decision-making should be rooted in and supported by facts with a high level of due diligence, not fueled by one-off anecdotes and fear mongering. We deserve a Board accountable to all members under the highest standards of governance, using best practices with abundant transparency and financial diligence. For me, the “straw that broke the camel’s back” was learning that hundreds of thousands of unbudgeted member dollars had been committed to an STR Client Services Office with no apparent Finance or Board approval. That’s when I decided to run.
The future of our private lake is at stake. Some current Board members do not welcome ALA member input. We need a board that is accessible, willing to listen to its members, and makes responsible decisions that affect the many, not just the few. As an ALA Board member, I pledge to ensure that the voice of the membership is heard and that Board actions reflect the interests of the majority to ensure a safe and enjoyable paradise for all ALA members.
