We members pay the fees in exchange for good and valuable services, and we elect our representatives to smartly guide that.

Members should expect and demand appropriate behavior, professionalism, and sound decision-making from their elected representatives.

Board should set performance objectives such as adherence to operating budget, on-schedule and on-budget completion of capital projects, and favorable views from ALA members.

Bylaws and policies should be uniformly applied, and, when ambiguous, interpreted in favor of the members rather than in favor of the board.

Committee chairs should be facilitators of discussion, with committee members participating.

In actuality, some committee chairs tend to dominate the conversation and propose most of the motions.
